As California’s first incorporated city, Sacramento has become a premier business location. With nearly one-half million people, Sacramento is the seventh largest city in California and the capital of the world’s sixth-largest economy. Sacramento’s central city is the largest employment center in the region with more than 100,000 employees. The Sacramento region, with its more than two million residents, provides a diverse economy and is now home to many high-tech manufacturers, software development companies, biotechnology and medical research laboratories and facilities, food processors and medical equipment manufacturers.

Sacramento offers a business friendly environment and supports the development of a strong, stable and vibrant business community. Great weather, beautiful waterfronts, views of the foothills, open space, great neighborhoods and array of cultural amenities make Sacramento a premier place to live, work and play.

The Sacramento Region’s commercial real estate market has seen notable growth over the past five years with an increase of almost 19 percent of office inventory and 10 percent of industrial inventory. The Sacramento office market (which includes areas in the six-county Sacramento Region) has a total of almost 68 million square feet under construction. In the same time period, the region’s industrial market’s total inventory included almost 157 million square feet.

A well-developed transportation network is essential to a metropolitan area’s success. The Sacramento Region boasts such a network, made up of interstate highways, transcontinental railways, a cargo port and an international airport.

Electricity in the Sacramento Region is provided by three utilities: Pacific Gas and Electric (PG&E) (www.pge.com), Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD) (www.smud.org) and Roseville Electric (www.roseville.ca.us/electric). PG&E also provides natural gas to the entire Sacramento Region.
